New Delhi: With less than one month left for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) examination 2023, the aspirants have started urging the authorities to postpone the exam by one month.

Among several reasons for deferring the exam, the aspirants have referred to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases. Many candidates have pointed out that the schedule of the exam on May 7, 2023, is not providing the repeaters adequate time to prepare.

The candidates are using hashtags like #postponeNEETUG2023 to express their problems on Twitter and they are urging the authorities including the National Testing Agency (NTA) to defer the exam schedule.

NEET UG 2023, scheduled to be held on May 7, 2023, will be conducted in 13 languages, i.e., English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

NTA closed the window for submitting the online application form for NEET UG 2023 only a last week. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that NTA had to reopen the registration window after it received representations from candidates stating that they could not complete the registration due to unavoidable reasons.

However, now the candidates have started demanding deferment of the examination as they cited rising cases of COVID-19 as the reason. Taking to Twitter, one user urged NTA to postpone the exam and stated, “please postpone NEET UG 2023 till a month. Many of us are pressured due to studies as well as the fear of covid. We cant put our families at risk. Please understand our plea. Covid is something that we cannot take it for granted.”

“I urges @dgnta @PMOIndia @CMOTamilnadu @CMOKerala @dpradhanbjp to please postpone neet ug 2023 bcoz in rise of covid cases and students need more time to study as the board exams just over,” wrote another user.

#postponeNEETUG2023 Please @DG_NTA @PMOIndia @EduMinOfIndia Don’t be so naive towards the students request. Amid the rising covid-19 cases and considering less time gap between boards and #Neet2023 please do postpone the examination. @aajtak @ndtvindia Please raise our voice

Several candidates have also cited the lack of adequate time for preparation as the reason for postponing the exam. In this regard, an user stated on Twitter, “Respected sir/madam, As every year there is sufficient period between board exam and NEET UG but this time there is no sufficient time to revise at all. Please understand the students situation kindly postpone by atleast 30 days @PMOIndia @DG_NTA @dpradhanbjp.”

NEET 2022 was on July ,2021 and 2020 were on September….how is it fair for us to have the exam on may when we too where affected by lockdowns and had Our entire 10 th and 11th class online….#postponeNEETUG2023 #postponeNeetug2023tilljune

I request NTA to postpone neet ug 2023 to June as we have a lot of time lapse as we completed the board exams late. Also earlier the exam was held in July 2022 but now you are conducting it in May.Not fair😞#postponeNEETUG2023@DG_NTA@EduMinOfIndia @dpradhanbjp @CMO_Odisha

The demand for postponing NEET is not new as for the last few years candidates had been urging the authorities with the same prayer. This year the NEET PG aspirants had also demanded to postpone the exam as they pointed out that the counselling would not start before completion of MBBS internship in August. However, the authorities did not agree to such demands and the NEET PG 2023 exam was conducted as per the schedule on March 5, 2023.
