Tamil Nadu: NEET UG 2023 registrations just got over. The last date to register was 15.4.2023. This year, there has been an increasing number of registrations by candidates from Tamil Nadu.

NEET UG is a centralized test for admission to medical and dental undergraduate courses by National Testing Agency (NTA). The Director of Medical Education (DME) is responsible for counselling and admission. It plays a pivotal role in developing medical and para-medical personnel to cater to the state’s health needs. The department also has a role to play in establishing and maintaining well-equipped teaching institutions, which are the premier referral centres with state-of-the-art equipment and technology. Research is another area of activity for the Medical Education Department.

The report from TOI suggests around 147581 candidates this year have registered for the exam from Tamil Nadu. Last year around 142286 candidates registered for NEET UG. Among the candidates who have applied, more male candidates (65%) have applied than female candidates (35%).

The candidates who have qualified NEET UG 2023 exam are only eligible for counselling. These candidates must be citizens of India at 17 years of age as of 31.12.2023. They will have passed 10+2 with a recognized board.

The counselling process is usually carried out in 4 rounds (round 1, round 2, mop-up, and spot round). Spot round is conducted only if seats remain vacant after the first 3 rounds. Each round of counselling is a separate round, and the rules of each round are different. Once any round commences, the rules of that round will apply to all the candidates even if they are allotted/admitted in the previous rounds of counselling. Two spates counselling process is held, one for government quota and one for management quota.
