Bihar fixes MBBS fee for 5 private medical colleges, details

The health department in Bihar has fixed the fee structure for MBBS courses at 5 private medical colleges for 2021-2026. The fee structure, which includes tuition fee and development charges, ranges between Rs 7.98 lakh and Rs 15.50 lakh.

The fee structure doesn’t include hostel fees, transport fees, mess charges, etc.

The revised fee structure is per the rate submitted by the institution to the decision-making committee. The rates cannot be increased once submitted. Institute will have to return the excess amount if taken during admission in the previous academic session.

Negligence in Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy results in patient’s death: ISPAT, Apollo Hospitals, Doctors slapped Rs 25 lakh compensation

The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) recently held Doranda-based Ispat Hospital and Andur Razzaque Ansari Memorial Weavers’ Hospital (Apollo Hospitals Group) and its doctors guilty of medical negligence while providing treatment to a patient operated for removal of the gall bladder.

Following the operation, the condition of the patient worsened and she ultimately died because of internal bleeding leading to cardio-respiratory failure.

Previously, while considering the matter, the State Commission had exonerated the Apollo Hospital. However, now the top consumer court has noted that the “doctors at ISPAT and Apollo Hospital liable for not exercising their reasonable skills and failed to provide standard of reasonable care.”

Fortis to acquire 350 bedded Gurugram-based Medeor Hospital for Rs 225 crore

Fortis Healthcare Limited (”Company”), has , announced that it has signed definitive agreements with the VPS Group for the acquisition of its Medeor Hospital in Manesar, Gurugram, Haryana, (“Medeor Hospital”) for an overall purchase consideration of INR 225 Crore.

The hospital has a potential bed capacity of 350 beds and can be operationalized in a phased manner in approx. 9 months.

Sparsh Hospital Chairman Dr Sharan Shivaraj Patil appointed as President of Indian Society of Hip and Knee Surgeons

Dr Sharan Shivaraj Patil, Chairman and Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon of Sparsh Hospital has been appointed as the new President of the Indian Society of Hip and Knee Surgeons (ISHKS) for the years 2023–2024. His appointment was declared at ISHKS 2023’s 16th Annual Conference, which was recently held in Hyderabad.

Dr. Sharan completed his medical school with an academic distinction from MR Medical College, Gulbarga after a brief stint at St Martha’s Hospital in Bangalore. His post-graduate education was at Kasturba Medical College Manipal. He was awarded D‘Othro in 1990 followed by the MS (Ortho) in1991 with a Gold medal. In 1995, Sharan was bestowed with the coveted degree of Mch Ortho from Liverpool University.

NMC guidelines call for empathy and compassion from medical teachers

While specifying how medical teachers should act as a role model for the students, the Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed the teachers to be empathetic and compassionate.

NMC mentioned in the recent guidelines on “Professional Responsibilities of Medical Teachers” that the medical teachers must “Demonstrate empathy and compassion in their demeanour and dedication to welfare of patients, nursing staff and colleagues and maintain professionalism at all times during their interactions,”
