Rajasthan man swallows 56 blades, doctor operates metals in bizarre incident

A shocking incident took place in Rajasthan, where a 25-year-old man swallowed 56 blades. The patient was admitted to the hospital by his friends after he started vomiting blood. Upon arriving at a private hospital, x-ray was conducted immediately after which the doctor came to know that there was the presence of metal inside the patient’s stomach. To clearly understand the issue, the doctor conducted sonography and an endoscopy. The tests clearly revealed that there were metal blades in the stomach. After this, surgery was performed to remove 56 blades from his stomach.

Guidelines for determining medical negligence underway? Health Ministry says matter under consideration

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has taken up for consideration the healthcare sector’s long-standing demand to frame guidelines for determining medical negligence cases, a reply to an RTI query revealed.

Though there is no guideline at present, the matter is under consideration, the ministry said in response to an application filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act on behalf of PTI.

AIIMS-Delhi doctors perform risky surgery on foetus’ heart inside mother’s womb

A team of doctors from AIIMS here have successfully performed a complex surgery on the grape-size heart of foetus and reshaped it inside a mother’s womb.

The 28-year-old pregnant woman who had suffered three miscarriages was crestfallen when she was informed about the heart condition of the foetus in her womb, doctors at the hospital said.

However, the woman was determined to continue with the pregnancy and agreed to allow the doctors carry out the procedure on the foetus’ heart.

“A team of interventional cardiologists along with doctors from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at AIIMS performed the procedure termed balloon dilation in the obstructed valve of the heart. Under the procedure which was performed under the guidance of ultrasound, a needle was inserted in the heart of the foetus and then using a balloon catheter, the obstructed valve was unclogged,” a senior doctor said.
