Dindigul: Dindigul and its nearby districts will get a significant boost as authorities have opened a 500-bedded facility for patients at Dindigul Government Medical College hospital.
The new facility was inaugurated by Minister for Rural Development I Periyasamy and Health Minister Ma Subramanian on Tuesday. The Minister has also confirmed that after Dindigul, work will start for establishing similar hospital buildings in Ramanathapuram and Tiruppur within Ten days.
The remaining hospital buildings would be inaugurated very soon. Besides the hospital building, three other buildings at the cost of Rs 95 lakh were also inaugurated, the Minister said.

The Block Health Unit building on the PHC grounds at Ammayanaickanur, the new Primary Health Centre building at Ammapatti, nurse housing at PHC in K. Pudukottai, and the new Primary Health Centre building at Ammapatti were inaugurated in the presence of the Collector S. Visakan, MP B. Veluchamy, MLAs I.P. Senthilkumar and Gandhirajan, and the Director of Medical Education R. Santhi Malar reports The Hindu.
Speaking at the event, the Health Minister noted that five districts would have hospital facilities with 500 and 700 beds, respectively, for the 11 government medical colleges that opened in 2022.
For the second year in a row, 150 medical aspirants were accepted by the Dindigul Government Medica. Among them, 7.5% of the available seats were taken by students who attended government schools. The State government covers their tuition costs and they receive free textbooks and laptops.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami laid the foundation stone for a new government medical college in this district in 2020. Mr.Palaniswami said the college would be constructed at a cost of Rs 327 crore on 8.61 acres of land. The government had allotted Rs 100 crore for the construction works.Â
