Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) is an undergraduate
course for students who want to study Ayurveda and treat patients using
Ayurvedic medicine which is a form of alternative medicine. Ayurveda is a
discipline of the upaveda or “auxiliary knowledge” in Vedic
tradition.
It is done by
them after the completion of their 10+2 exam or any other equivalent. The
duration of this undergraduate course is 5½ years. This system aims to prevent illness¸
heal the sick and preserve life. Ayurveda has its origins in India
and extended its wings to various parts of the world.
The course is a
full-time course pursued at various accredited institutes/hospitals across the

Admission to this course is done through the NEET UG
Entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), followed by

can either join the job market or can pursue MD (Ayurveda Vachaspati) / MS (Ayurveda

(B.A.M.S). The principal objectives of Ayurveda are the maintenance and promotion of health, prevention of disease, and cure of
sickness. Treatment of the
disease consists in avoiding causative factors responsible for disequilibrium
of the body matrix or of any of its constituent parts through the use of
Panchkarma procedures, medicines, suitable diet, activity, and regimen for
restoring the balance and strengthening the body mechanisms to prevent or
minimize future occurrence of the disease.
Bachelor of ayurvedic medicine and
Surgery (BAMS) subjects are Ayurvedic as Modern Anatomy & Physiology,
Ayurvedic Classical Texts, Sanskrit Language, Ayurvedic Classical Texts, Social
and Preventive Medicine, Ayurvedic Toxicology, Pharmacology, and Pharmaceutics
including herbal and Herbo-mineral medicines as well as essential modern
pharmacology, diagnostics and clinical methods.
