Bhumika Chawla is a name that has been a part of Bollywood and South cinema for the last 23 years. For many, she is Nirjara Bharadwaj from Salman Khan’s Tere Naam. After being away from the Hindi cinema for quite some time, Bhumika made her comeback with MS Dhoni: The Untold Story in 2016 and since then, has been taking on several projects. The latest one is opposite her Tere Naam co-star, Salman Khan. Bhumika Chawla plays a pivotal role in Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, which is set for an Eid release.Â
However, nothing much about her career after the success of Tere Naam has been in the spotlight. If you are also someone who wonders what’s keeping Bhumika Chawla busy in showbiz, this story is just for you.Â
Bhumika Chawla was catapulted to stardom after the release of her and Salman Khan’s romantic tragedy, which was a remake of the Tamil film Sethu. Tere Naam was among the highest grossers in 2003. The actress became a household name and in no time, garnered a huge fan base.Â
After Tere Naam, Bhumika Chawla worked in a few more Hindi films – Run with Abhishek Bachchan, Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa opposite Salman Khan, Dil Jo Bhi Kahey… with Amitabh Bachchan, and Family: Ties of Blood with Akshay Kumar and Big B. However, none of these had the same impact as Tere Naam on the audience.Â
In 2007, Bhumika Chawla played a major role in Feroz Abbas Khan`s biographical drama Gandhi My Father. The film went on to bag the National Film Special Jury Award for Best Feature Film.
It was the same year when Bhumika Chawla married her boyfriend Bharat Thakur. They are now parents to a boy.Â
A year later, in 2008, Bhumika Chawla made her Punjabi film debut with Yaariyan, which starred Gurdas Maan. In a gap of a few months, she also made her acting debut in the Malayalam film industry with Bhramaram.Â
From 2010 to 2015, the actress featured in a number of South films, including Godfather, Buddy, Chithirayil Nilachoru and, Luv U Alia.Â
With MS Dhoni – The Untold Story, Bhumika Chawla resumed her career in Bollywood. Directed by Neeraj Pandey, the film co-starred Bhumika with late actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
Since her performance did not get much attention from cine lovers, Bhumika Chawla continued working in the South film industry. Khamoshi, Kolaiyuthir Kaalam, Ruler and Idhe Maa Katha were among her releases in 2021.
In 2022, Bhumika appeared alongside Sharad Kelkar and Sidhant Gupta in Operation Romeo. It was followed by Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur’s Sita Ramam, in which the actress played the role of an Army Brigadier’s wife. She was last seen in the Tamil movie Kannai Nambathey. It was released on March 17.
Apart from Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Bhumika Chawla will also star in Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency.
