When the tree’s bark is pierced with a knife (traditionally called a ‘Mingaf’), a milky-white oleoresin is exuded – without causing any harm to the tree. The resin condenses into droplets called ‘tears’ or ‘pearls,’ which harden into the orange-brown gum called Frankincense. The English name for this natural incense comes from the mediaeval French ‘franc’, which means ‘pure’ or ‘free’, and the Latin ‘incensium’, which means ‘to smoke’.

The hardened resin has been burned in temples throughout Egypt, China, and India for over 5000 years; the Catholic church continues to use it during Mass today. It is one of the four primary components of Jewish ceremonial incense and plays a significant role in Sabbath day offerings. As with other ritual incense, it is believed that the smoke of Frankincense carries prayers to heaven. Additionally, it is said to assist in deepening the breath and calming the mind, making it beneficial for meditation and yogic practise. Incense may also have health benefits, as it produces a highly antiseptic smoke that helps keep churches and churchgoers disease-free.

According to ancient records, Babylon’s great Baal temple consumed 2.5 tonnes of Frankincense per year. In ancient times, the Frankincense trade was enormously important, reaching a zenith around 2000 years ago. Caravans grew to a size of up to 2,000 to 3,000 camels. Cities developed along the trade routes, and high taxes and fees for protection, lodging, and camel fodder significantly increased the cost of the resin, to the point where it was valued at the same level as gold. Alexander the Great was inspired by the wealth involved to plot to control the region, despite the fact that his death occurred prior to the invasion.

There have been a number of incorrect beliefs about iridology. Regrettably, some of these beliefs originated in the medical community, as well as among some uninformed natural health practitioners. While one can never be certain how these illusions came to be, it is critical to correct some of these well-known fallacies.

Iridology has frequently been viewed as a form of astrology or fortune telling by some uneducated individuals. Radials indicate a vulnerable area of the intestinal lining that is susceptible to bacteria, viruses, toxins, or parasites. These radials are most frequently visible in the iris’s upper quadrant, or head region. Unfortunately, many people developed an obsession with the fear that their brains were infested with parasites, which is a completely false assumption. This unfortunate misuse of the term ‘parasite lines’ created unnecessary alarm and served only to diminish the science of iridology.

Another false claim that unintentionally raised eyebrows and resulted in the mainstream medical community dismissing iridology was the notion that a brown eye could completely change color to become blue.
Iris colors remain constant in accordance with the teachings of competent iridologists. Pigmentation in the iris, visible as spots or areas of color, can lighten or darken slightly as toxicity levels decrease; however, if your eyes are brown, they will remain brown. Another implausible assertion is that a person could ‘cleanse’ himself to exhaustion until his iris changed color. Cleansing and detoxification are wonderful healing modalities that have no intention or ability to completely alter the color of an individual’s eyes.

As with any science, there are a number of things that an iridology examination cannot definitively reveal. In America, an iridologist will not diagnose any disease by name; rather, the premise is to work with ‘body systems’ and look for vulnerable areas to disease, as well as congestion and toxicity levels.

For example, if someone has their appendix removed, this will not be visible in the iris. The nervous system is numbed to the point where it is incapable of sending strong signals to the iris during anesthetic.

Additionally, some practitioners continue to believe that ‘healing signs’ in the form of small cross-hatched lines filling in a lacuna shape will appear in the iris to indicate that healing has occurred. This is simply not the case. As previously stated, certain iris markings can lighten slightly as the body begins to repair itself, thus sending energy to an impaired area and resulting in improvement. This is due to the iris’s actual fiber structure lifting, revealing less of the posterior border layer’s underlying black pigmentation. Indeed, sclera signs are a more reliable way of detecting changes in the body quickly.

One cannot look into the iris and determine a person’s blood pressure, specific blood serum cholesterol levels, or the presence and size of a tumor. Nor can one tell a person’s gender by looking into their eyes.

Another frequent misunderstanding is that patients confuse iridology with the study of eye diseases. Clients frequently ask, “Do you see glaucoma in my eyes?” Alternatively, “Can you tell me if I need glasses?” The study of the eyes and eye diseases is a branch of ophthalmology or optometry practice.

While delivering a lecture at a nursing college, one of the students told me this story. She stated that a friend had seen an iridologist who informed her that her green eyes indicated that the rest of her body was toxic. Understandably, the friend was appalled and concluded that Iridology was quackery. Regrettably, some iridologists, particularly those with out-of-date training in the field, have limited knowledge and incorrect information.

Iridology is a precise science, as are all sciences. However, the astounding ability of this science to determine an individual’s overall health and genetic influences is too valuable to ignore.

These are external influences over which you have no control, such as noise and obnoxious light. Ideally, your sleeping environment should be dark, quiet, and comfortable. Once you’ve’mastered’ and gained control of these simple tips, you’ll discover that you can adapt to any environment quite easily because you’ll KNOW that you can sleep whenever you want.

It’s appropriate to mention one more tip that took me an extended period of time to discover. This had an unfavorable effect on every method I attempted. I discovered that if the temperature isn’t too high, your body has a better chance of relaxing and thus sleeping better. I used to sleep in socks because my feet were constantly cold. Socks in bed are a definite NO – NO! They have a tendency to overheat your entire body and disrupt any established sleep patterns. Electric blankets have a similar detrimental effect. You have a much better chance of sleeping if your body temperature is lower, NOT higher.

Is Reiki Truly A Massage Therapy?

Massage is generally defined as “the manipulation of the body’s soft tissues for therapeutic, healing, or relaxing purposes.” I believe the operative word here is “manipulation.” Reiki takes a very different approach. Reiki, like Shiatsu massage, aims to balance the body’s “ki” or “life force energy.” According to ancient Oriental philosophy, when this energy is out of balance or depleted in the body, an individual becomes prone to physical and emotional ailments. Reiki practitioners seek to channel energy into their clients in a way that balances their energies and promotes healing.

However, when practicing Reiki according to the prescribed methods, there is no “manipulation” involved. Indeed, in some cases, Reiki treatments do not involve any physical contact at all. This would undoubtedly create a conflict between the widely accepted definition of massage and Reiki practice.

Reiki as it is currently practiced was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese minister and head of a Christian school. His students had inquired about Jesus’ healing abilities. Usui did not have an answer, but became obsessed with figuring out how Jesus healed the sick and infirm. (I suppose “because he was the Son of God” is not an acceptable response.)

Dr. Usui studied in Christian schools, Buddhist monasteries, and temples for years. He was unable to find an answer to the healing question until he began a 21-day fast. At the conclusion of the fast, he reportedly had a revelatory experience that revealed the methods he had been seeking to comprehend. He then embarked on a ministry of healing. Eventually, he shared his knowledge with Dr. Chujiro Hyashi, who shared it with Mrs. Hawayo Takata, who trained 22 Reiki Masters, who in turn shared it with thousands of others.

Reiki, in its simplest form, is the transfer of energy from the Reiki practitioner to the patient. Indeed, Reiki teaches that the patient draws this energy from the practitioner, thereby empowering the patient to take an active role in their own healing and ultimately bear responsibility for it. After that, the energy is realigned and balanced, and the body’s harmony is restored.

While Reiki is not a religion, it does incorporate a significant amount of spirituality. It is acknowledged and recognized that God or a Universal Life Force is the source of all life energy. While Reiki incorporates specific principles, the actual techniques are quite similar to the “laying on of hands” practiced by faith healers from a variety of religious denominations. However, “laying on of hands” is not the same as “manipulation of soft tissue,” which is required to define massage.

There are a few issues with this. To begin, massage as a stand-alone practice has struggled to be recognized as a legitimate form of therapy and healing by the medical establishment. Massage is readily accepted and practiced under the auspices of physical therapy to restore muscular function and aid in the rehabilitative process. Many believe, however, that massage therapy is a “mixed” healing application that incorporates elements of mainstream medicine, alternative medicine, holistic health, New Age cultism, sexual indulgence, and mystical forgery. The simple fact is that “soft tissue manipulation” has been demonstrated and accepted as a healing modality. The desire to classify any healing profession involving touch, or even the close proximity of hand to body, as massage creates confusion and suspicion.

Reiki has been dismissed by scientists and physicians as a placebo effect that causes patients to feel better simply because they are supposed to feel better. Additionally, there are questions about practitioners’ motivations because Dr. Usui, the founder of Reiki, determined that there must be a “energy exchange” between the Reiki healer and the Reiki patient in order for the patient to invest in the healing process. In most cases, this investment is monetary, and it is a fundamental principle of Reiki.

Another issue with Reiki being classified as a type of massage is that certain states require Reiki practitioners to be licensed as massage therapists. Numerous Reiki practitioners contest this categorization, citing the distinction between Reiki and massage as stated in the preceding definitions.

As a result, Reiki has a schizophrenic personality. On the one hand, many massage schools offer courses in Reiki. However, many practitioners do not consider themselves to be massage therapists. Thus, far be it from me to attempt to resolve this controversy in a single article. Reiki is a form of healing that may or may not be truly effective.

Alternative medicine is the practice of using non-traditional methods in addition to or in place of conventional methods to treat disease or pain. There is considerable controversy surrounding alternative medicine, particularly in the cancer arena, because the majority of it is unproven in the medical community. A treatment must have been subjected to peer-reviewed, controlled studies in order to be proven. However, if one knows where to look, ample research exists to support the efficacy of a variety of alternative therapies.

Every day, an increasing number of us are becoming dissatisfied with the way conventional medicine operates; after all, let’s face it… Western medicine is geared toward disease management. Numerous alternative methods can be used to prevent rather than manage. Once I began to consider it, I knew there had to be a better way. That was the start of my alternative journey.

The numerous alternative medicine modalities can be overwhelming, and many of them I have no personal experience with. However, this is the starting point… a broad overview of breast cancer alternative medicine, by no means exhaustive. Some of these methods are palliative (aid in managing the pain and discomfort associated with cancer and its treatment), others are complementary (to be used in addition to conventional treatment), some are preventive, and others appear promising as adjuvant treatments.

Physical Touch and Manual Healing

This is a broad category that includes, but is not limited to, acupuncture, chiropractic, massage, and Reiki. Acupuncture is a branch of Chinese medicine that entails the insertion of fine needles into specific energy pathways on the body through the skin. This method, which is based on balanced Qi, interrupts the energy that flows through the body. While there is considerable debate over whether acupuncture can be used to treat cancer directly, it is well documented for relieving pain and nausea associated with cancer and its treatments.


Chiropractic is the correction of musculoskeletal mechanical disorders. It is accomplished through spinal and neck adjustments. There are traditional chiropractors who adjust the entire spine, and then there are Direct Non-Force Technique chiropractors who use specific, targeted adjustments to alleviate neurotransmitter interference throughout the body. The premise here is that the body is capable of self-healing and strives to maintain balance within. Correcting musculoskeletal disorders aids in reestablishing lost balance.

Recent studies have discovered that massage increases alertness and decreases depression, stress, anxiety, and pain. Massages come in a variety of styles, from deep tissue to basic relaxation. Numerous health care providers advocate for the addition of massage therapy to conventional treatment.


Reiki is a Japanese term that literally translates as “universal life energy.” This is a method that is typically carried out in person but can also be carried out remotely. Reiki is based on the premise that when the body’s energy pathways are blocked, disease and/or pain result. A Reiki practitioner can open these channels, resulting in decreased pain and muscle tension, as well as an increased body’s ability to heal itself.

Herbs, Minerals, Vitamins, Diet, and Supplementary Nutrition

This is one of the paths I’ve taken for myself, following thorough research and consideration. There is evidence that what we eat plays a significant role in cancer prevention, and it is constantly in the news. Our society’s evolution has resulted in an increase in processed foods and a decrease in nutritional value. Pesticides are used by farmers to keep bugs away from our produce. They use hormones to increase the size of our chickens, cattle, and pigs faster so they can profit from them sooner. Of course, they are unaware, or perhaps they simply do not care, that those substances are then consumed by us. I was unaware those items were being used until after I was diagnosed. What do you mean I’m consuming estrogen through my meat??? That was one hell of a wakeup call.

The majority of practitioners do not recommend the use of nutritional supplements simply because they have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration… This premise astounds me because numerous drugs approved by the FDA have resulted in serious injury and/or death. Numerous nutritional supplements demonstrate significant promise in preventing, and possibly even treating, breast cancer. The studies are readily available if one knows where to look.


Naturopathy is another technique that makes use of the body’s inherent capacity for self-healing. It is based on the concept that everything in the body is connected and that experiencing pain or illness is your body signaling you that something is wrong. According to naturopathic philosophy, your body begins to communicate when something is out of balance… Perhaps your food is not being digested properly, or your hormones are out of balance… and it starts a snowball effect that spreads through your organs until it catches your attention. Everything is interconnected, and when one area suffers a setback, another area attempts to pick up the slack and becomes overworked, and so on. Naturopaths balance the body through natural means such as homeopathic remedies, natural agents, manipulation, or electrical treatment.


This is the practice of administering extremely small doses of active ingredients to stimulate the body’s natural defense and healing mechanisms. As with naturopathy, it seeks to restore homeostasis (balance) to the body in order for it to heal itself. Homeopathic remedies function similarly to vaccines in our bodies and are based on the principle of like cures like. Homeopaths prescribe substances that would cause symptoms in a healthy individual in order to heal those same symptoms in a sick individual. For instance, a homeopath may prescribe trace amounts of thyroid to someone whose thyroid is excessively active in order to help the thyroid build a defense against this and slow down.

Acid Reflux Disease Is Associated With Cancer

Could An MSM Supplement Be The Answer?

Acid reflux, also known as GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), is a condition in which stomach acid splashes up into the esophagus. This fluid is predominantly acidic with traces of pepsin and bile. Each of these fluids poses a risk to the delicate esophageal tissue, with acid posing the greatest danger. This refluxed fluid can irritate and damage the esophageal lining (esophagitis). If left untreated, this condition can progress to Barrett’s esophagus, a precursor to esophageal cancer.

Acid reflux affects over 15 million Americans on a daily basis. This condition affects people of all ages. Acid reflux is more severe in older people than in younger people. Each year, 13,000 people are diagnosed with esophageal cancer. It claims at least 12,000 lives. Overall, the survival rate is extremely low. Acid reflux is the most significant known risk factor for Barrett’s Esophagus, which can progress to esophageal cancer.

Barrett’s esophagus develops when uncontrolled chronic acid reflux or esophagitis. Constant inflammation and damage transform the normal squamous cells that line the esophagus into specialized columnar cells. Columnar cells are uncommon in humans and can develop into cancer.

While this can happen to anyone, it is more common in people over forty who have suffered from heartburn on a consistent basis for more than five years. Several of the symptoms include difficulty swallowing and being awakened at night by heartburn pain. Certain individuals exhibit no symptoms at all.

Scar tissue can form as a result of the acid’s constant attack on the delicate esophageal lining. The tissue can become thickened and hard, resulting in a narrowing of the esophagus. This can make swallowing food or even water difficult.

MSM has been hailed as the most powerful natural healer since vitamin C. It appears to possess the ability to alleviate pain and inflammation. It is now used to treat a variety of conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, and gout. It is even used to treat snoring and constipation. MSM has been used successfully on horses and dogs to alleviate the inflammation caused by allergies.

If you choose to pursue allopathic medical treatment, an endoscopy is required to diagnose Barrett’s Esophagus. The doctor inserts a long mechanical tube down your throat to observe and biopsy your esophagus. It can’t be an enjoyable procedure. And what happens if the outcome is negative? Most likely, the doctor will prescribe medications that have adverse side effects. Several of these medications are H2 antagonists, such as cimetidine, ranitidine, and famotidine. Alternatively, he may prescribe the proton pump inhibitors omeprazole and lansoprazole.

These medications may cause the following side effects: headache, digestive disturbances such as diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain, excess gas in the stomach and intestines (flatulence), dry mouth, skin reactions such as rash and itching, skin inflammation (dermatitis), dizziness, muscle and joint pain, and swelling of the legs and ankles due to excessive fluid retention (pericarditis). The list could go on indefinitely.

If the medications do not work, he will most likely recommend a surgical procedure called fundoplication, which involves removing the damaged section of the esophagus and reconnecting it to the stomach.

Essentially, doctors are trained to write prescriptions. They have no concept of healing. They are only taught how to treat symptoms through the sale of pharmaceutical products.

Apart from the negative side effects, no one truly understands the long-term effects of these drugs on the human body.

Four Innovative Approaches to Healing

Have you ever had the sense that dis-ease was in control of your life? Perhaps this is not a chronic illness at all. Do you harbor resentment? Resentment? Frustration?

1. Recognize Your Energy

We’ve all heard of the aura that surrounds the body, but what possible connection does this have to our health? According to Carolyn Myss in her audio program “Why People Don’t Heal,” it is through this energetic exchange that our thoughts become translated into energy (or what she refers to as one’s biography becoming their biology). These energy cycles or waves that surround our body are a result of our thoughts. Thus, thoughts are energy waves that have a positive or negative effect on our health. Consider the following to understand why this occurs:

The seven major “chakras” contribute to the energy that surrounds the body (chakra in Sanskrit means “wheel or vortex”). It’s worth noting that Myss refers to each energy wheel as a “computer,” one that gathers and interprets data and “perceptions” the mind has about the world. Each of these seven energy wheels has been scientifically proven to correspond to a specific endocrine gland in the body. In light of the adage “you are what you eat,” we can safely conclude that “you are what you think.”

2. Heal Past Wounds

After you’ve examined your thoughts and converted all of your negative energy to positive, Myss throws another curve ball. Would you concur with her assessment that “healing is unappealing?” I needed some time to consider this: Why would healing be unappealing?

Myss’s response: Our wounds empower us! And, after much deliberation, I’ve outlined three methods by which I’ve accomplished this myself.

Consider the following: Are you leading with your wounds? You will be aware if you have committed any of the following:

1. Manipulated a Situation or a Person Using Wounds.

Assume we find a situation unsavory, frightening, or triggering a personal “hot button.” Have you ever avoided confronting a situation that you really needed to confront? Or how about this one: “I’m unable to enter this relationship – I’ve already been burned!” Perhaps I’m speaking to myself here, but I admit that I’ve used my wounds (more times than I’d like to admit) to avoid unconditional love.

2. Use Them to Attract Additional Wounded Souls Interested in Trading in the “Wound” Game.

I’ve also done this. I’ve traded compassion for wound ante – “I’ll see you and raise you one” – after listening to another share their wounds. While there is a distinction between healing from a wound and “leading with a wound,” in my humble opinion, I’d wager that we all understand the difference between being healthy and being unhealthy. For instance, I know I’m healthy when I can listen empathically without reaching for my toolbox to “fix” or uninvitedly laying out my wounds.

3. Abandon Our Capacity to Listen.

According to Dr. Bernie Siegel’s book “Peace, Love, and Healing,” listening is the work of angels. Oftentimes, listening is all we have when someone approaches us for assistance. If we express what Ms. Myss refers to as “woundology” or “leading with our wounds,” we are expressing our inability to bear the loss of power and our desire for complete attention to ourselves.

Given that I’m hanging out all of my laundry here today (and what would Myss say about this?) Here’s an illustration of how I’ve dealt with my wounds: Someone recently confided in me about a situation in which they had suffered the loss of a loved one. My mind searched its experiences for a comparable event while I listened attentively. All of this so I could say, “Oh, that’s awful!” Don’t feel bad, because I’ve been through something far worse!”

However, in order to reclaim my character (and after realizing what was happening), I caught myself. In reality, all this person required was my undivided attention.

3. Develop an Ability to Forgive Oneself and Others

The final two steps are self-help remedies for anger, resentment, and frustration. Thus, step three is simply forgiveness. Forgiveness in earnest, on the other hand, diverts our energy away from its emotional investment in the past. We abstain from wasting energy by making negative deposits into this account, which, according to Myss, is the quickest way to bring our energy into real time. Translation: Believe me, you will recognize genuine forgiveness when you experience it. The body literally “releases” the burden of the past.

4.  Compassionately Love Yourself

Is this the final creative step in the healing process? Of course, loving yourself! This, in my opinion, is the most difficult concept. Why? To begin, we must accept and love ourselves as we are today. How is this beneficial to our health? It’s simple; once we recognize how negative self talk is impeding our personal growth and health, we can begin to love ourselves one piece at a time.

Here’s how it’s done (Author’s note: while this practice may appear unconventional at first glance, if you consult Louise L. Hay’s book “You Can Heal Your Life,” you’ll discover that this is one of the remedies she used to heal herself of cancer):

Every day, spend 15 minutes in front of the mirror sending yourself love! Begin small by identifying one area of yourself in which you can achieve perfection. Choose new aspects of yourself to love each day, week, or month. Soon, an image of perfection will appear before your eyes. Additionally, you will have cleansed your energy!

Finally, we could simplify all of these steps considerably. For there is only one step in this direction that will result in your health and happiness. Bear in mind that it is only when we learn to love ourselves that we can truly be healed.

Prevent back pain


Back pain is the most frequently reported complaint among adults under the age of 45. Back pain brings their activities to a halt and obstructs their career advancement. According to researchers, it is extremely difficult for physicians to determine the true cause of back pain.

Here is a brief overview of the human back’s anatomy. Our body’s structural stability and mobility are dependent on the spinal column. The spinal column enables us to twist, bend, and flex. The spinal column consists of 24 vertebrae: seven in the neck (cervical vertebrae), twelve in the thorax (thoracic vertebrae), and five in the lower back (lumbar vertebrae) (the lumbar vertebrae). The sacrum, which is located directly beneath the lumbar vertebrae, is made up of five fused vertebrae. The tailbone, or coccyx, is located just beneath the sacrum, with its three to five fused vertebrae. From the skull to the pelvis, these vertebrae are stacked one on top of the other. Between vertebrae, there are spongy discs. Muscles and ligaments encircle the spinal column.

The spinal cord is contained within the vertebral canal, which is formed by vertebral alignment.

As follows, Acharya Susruta describes the anatomy of the spinal column.

Prushte trimshat – There are thirty back bones (cervical seven, thoracic twelve, lumbar five, vertebrae fused in sacrum five, coccyx one). The joints of the spinal column have been described as ” Chaturvimshatihi prishta vamshe “. This equates to 24 joints in the spinal column.

Ligaments and tendons connect the bones and muscles.

Back ache causes

Vata is primarily responsible for the bones and thighs. Vata is in charge of controlling and directing the body’s movements. Back pain occurs when vata in this region becomes aggravated as a result of imprudent physical activities (mithya yoga of karma), excessive physical activities (Ati yoga of karma), or insufficient physical activities (hina yoga of karma).

1. Back pain is frequently caused by spasms in the muscles that support our spine. When we lift objects improperly, bend over too sharply, or sit in an unsuitable chair, the muscles that support the spine spasm.

In Ayurveda, these types of movements are referred to as “Mithyaa yoga of karma or action.”

2. Back pain can occur as a result of sneezing, climbing into a car, or bending down to pick up the newspaper.

3. Back pain can also be caused by osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, viral infection, bladder or kidney infection, gynecological problems in women, tumors, or trauma.

4. When we sit or stand for extended periods of time, we may experience a lack of motion, or hina yoga of karma, and poor posture. On the other hand, repetitive motions such as excessive bending, lifting, or twisting also have an effect on our back.

5. Other possible causes of back pain include the following:

• Obesity

• Using high-heeled shoes

• Sustaining a heavy load

The vitiated vata causes joint stiffness, pain, and restricts back movement.

Back pain remedies

1. Remain composed.

2. In the majority of cases, complete bed rest for 24 – 48 hours alleviates back pain. Every few hours, walk a little to keep the blood flowing and the muscles toned.

3. Applying a vata-balancing oil such as ksheerabala oil to the affected region and performing a Naadi sweda (mild steam bath on the affected area) on the affected region quickly alleviates the pain.

Consult a physician immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:

1. If you are over the age of 50 and experience sudden onset of severe pain or pain that is localized to the spine.

2. Pain as a result of a recent fall or trauma.

3. Hip and leg pain.

4. Back pain that is unrelated to posture.

5. Issues with bowel or bladder control.

6. Nausea or tingling in the groin or rectal area.

7. Extreme leg weakness.

8. Uncertainty while walking

9. Fever or weight loss in conjunction with the pain.

10. Pain that does not subside with time or rest

Back pain prevention

1. Maintain muscle conditioning by enhancing sitting, standing, and stretching postures. Muscles that are well-conditioned are less prone to injury.

2. Never stoop or bend at the waist to pick up an object. Rather than that, lower the body to the object’s level by bending the knees. Grasp the item and bring it close to your body, then raise yourself with your legs while maintaining a straight back.

3. Avoid lifting extremely heavy objects.

4. Prop yourself up whenever possible.

5. Lean against a wall or pillar while waiting for a bus or in a bank line.

6. Distribute footstools throughout the house. Alternatively, while performing standing chores, prop one leg up on a stool.

7. Sleep on a firm mattress and find a position that is comfortable for you.

8. Wear flat-heeled shoes.

9. Maintaining a straight posture is beneficial to your back.

10. Sit in a chair that supports the curve of your lower back.

11. If you’re going to be sitting for an extended period of time, prop your feet up on a low stool so that your knees are above your hips.

12. Avoid sitting or standing in one position for an extended period of time. Get up and walk for a few minutes at regular intervals.

13. Avoid activities that cause back pain.

14. Avoid sitting in the same position for extended periods of time. It could be dangerous to back. Take a break and move around in between.

15. Avoid becoming obese. Obesity increases the risk of developing back pain.

Tips for software professionals to avoid back pain include the following:

1. Choose the proper chair, one with a relatively straight back and adequate lower back support. If the chair lacks lower back support, keep a rolled-up towel or cushion nearby to provide support.

2. Align the chair, keyboard, and monitor properly. The feet should be flat on the floor, knees at hip level; the forearms and upper arms should form a right angle; and the computer terminal should be at eye level.

3. Assume a relaxed, upright working posture and rely on the chair to provide support.

4. Avoid slouching forward or leaning back excessively.

5. Every 30 minutes while at work, stand up, walk around, and stretch forward, backward, and side to side.

6. Increased stress and strain increases the likelihood of developing back pain. As a result, remember to unwind! Yoga and meditation are the most effective relaxation techniques.

7. Consume nutritious foods that are high in fiber. Avoid sweets, oil, soft drinks, and excessive eating to avoid weight gain.

8. Avoid sexual activity during the acute stage of back pain because it exacerbates the condition.

Backache Ayurvedic Home Remedies



• Nirgundi leaves (Samhaalu in Hindi) (Bot- Vitex negundo) (Eng – Five leaved chaste)

• Karanja leaves (Hindi: Ditauri) (Botanical name: Pongamia pinnata) (Eng – Indian beech)

Collect fresh Nirgundi and Karanja leaves. Tie them together in a large ball with a thin cotton cloth. Boil the leaves’ ball in water and apply it to the affected area when it is tolerably hot. Reheat the leaves when they become cold by immersing the leaves’ ball in boiling water. After 30 minutes, remove the leaves from the ball, grind them to a paste, and apply it to the affected area.

Ayurvedic Erectile Dysfunction Remedies

Erectile dysfunction definition

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a condition in which a man is unable to obtain or maintain an erection adequate for his sexual needs or those of his partner. Erectile dysfunction is occasionally referred to as “impotence.”

The term “erectile dysfunction” refers to an inability to obtain an erection, an inconsistency in obtaining one, or the ability to obtain only brief erections.
According to Ayurveda, erectile dysfunction, or ED, is expressed in the form.

na yaathi lingashaithilyaath kadaachidyaathi vaa yadi | Shwaasaarthaha swinnagaatrshcha moghasankalpacheshtitaha || mlaanashishnashcha nirbeejaha syodetat klaibyalaxanam |

This means that even if a man has a strong desire to engage in sexual activity with a cooperative partner, he is unable to do so due to the looseness (absence of erection) of his phallus ( penis). Even if he makes determined efforts to perform sexual acts, he is unable to obtain an erection and is plagued by fatigue, perspiration, and frustration when attempting to perform sex.

Erection physiology

The organ’s two chambers (corpora cavernosa) are lined with spongy tissue. A membrane called the tunica albuginea surrounds the corpora cavernosa. Smooth muscles, fibrous tissues, spaces, veins, and arteries are all found in the spongy tissue. The urethra, which serves as a conduit for urine and sperm, is located on the underside of the corpora cavernosa.

The erection begins as a result of sensory or mental stimulation, or both. The muscles of the corpora cavernosa relax in response to brain and local nerve impulses, allowing blood to flow into and fill the spaces of spongy tissue.

Blood flow generates pressure in the corpora cavernosa, which causes the penis to expand. The tunica albuginea helps maintain erection by trapping blood in the chambers. Erections recede when the penis muscles contract to block blood flow and open outflow channels.

In Ayurveda, the erection and ejaculation physiology are described as follows:

naabhyuuru vankshnow gudam| Apaanasthaanamantrasthaha shukra mootra shakrunti cha|

The testicles, urinary bladder, phallus, umbilicus, thighs, groin, anus, and colon are all home to the “apaanavayu,” one of the five types of vayu. Its functions include sperm ejaculation, urine voiding, and stool ejaculation”.

Shushruta describes the erection and ejaculation process as follows: “When a man has desire (iccha) for sex, his response to touch increases” ( Vayu located in skin causes flow of signals from skin to brain, thus causing sensation of touch). This results in arousal, or “harsha.” Arousal or Harsha intensifies vayu’s actions, and at this point, the highly active vayu releases the “teja” or pitta’s heat. As a result, tejas and vayu raise the body temperature, heart rate, and blood flow, resulting in erection.

ED’s Causes

Erection necessitates a series of events. Erectile dysfunction can occur as a result of any of the above-mentioned events being disrupted. This sequence of events is comprised of nerve impulses in the brain, spinal column, and around the penis, as well as responses in muscles, fibrous tissues, veins, and arteries in and around the corpora cavernosa. Any of the components of this sequence ( nerves, arteries, smooth muscles, fibrous tissue ) can be injured, resulting in ED.

Reduced testosterone hormone levels:

Testosterone is the primary male hormone. After the age of 40, a man’s testosterone level begins to decline gradually. Approximately 5% of men seen by physicians for erectile dysfunction have low testosterone levels. Low testosterone is frequently the cause of decreased sexual interest, not erectile dysfunction.
Testosterone affects the entire male body.

Susruta, too, has illustrated this body’s response to the element “Shukra.” He stated

“yatha payasi sarpistu goodashchekshow raso yatha shareereshu tatha shukram nrinaam vidyaadhbishagwara” “yatha payasi sarpistu goodashchekshow raso yatha shareereshu tatha shukram nrinaam vidy

This means that the shukra (the reproductive element) is present throughout the body.

The following examples demonstrate this.

1. Ghee is an invisible component of milk. This is extracted from milk in a variety of ways.

2. Sugar is present throughout the sugarcane. It is extracted through a series of processes on sugarcane.

Similarly, shukra is distributed throughout the body. However, the cream of shukra (semen) is expelled from the body only during the ejaculatory process. However, this ejaculatory process requires a joyful union of mind and body.

Erectile dysfunction is caused by a decrease in “Shukra” production.

Excessive exertion –

physically and mentally : Long hours in the office, mental stress at work and at home, irritability, and insufficient sleep all contribute to erectile dysfunction.

Ayurveda refers to these causes as “shoka chintaa, bhaya, traasaat…. “, which translates as “erectile dysfunction or impotence occurs as a result of grief, fear, anxiety, and terror.

Erectile dysfunction can also occur when there is a dislike for the sexual partner.

This is referred to in Ayurveda as “naarinaamarasamjnatwaat…”, which translates as “dislike for women.”

Erectile dysfunction-causing diseases include the following:

Erectile dysfunction can also be caused by neurological disorders, hypothyroidism, Parkinson’s disease, anemia, depression, rheumatoid arthritis, endocrine disorders, diabetes, and diseases of the cardiovascular system.

According to Ayurveda, the diseases that cause erectile dysfunction are “Hritpaandurogatamakakaamalashrama…” – cardiovascular diseases, anemia, asthma, liver disorders, and fatigue.

Apart from these, a tridosha imbalance can result in impotence or erectile dysfunction.

Consumption of pharmaceuticals, controlled substances, and tobacco:

Prolonged use of antidepressants, tranquilizers, and antihypertensive medications, addiction to tobacco, particularly smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and addiction to cocaine, heroin, and marijuana all contribute to erectile dysfunction.

These causes are summarized in ayurvedic texts as “rukshamannapaanam tathoushadham” – “dry food, beverages, and medicines” cause impotence or erectile dysfunction.

Pelvic region trauma:

Accidental pelvic region injury and surgeries for prostate, bladder, colon, or rectal area conditions may result in erectile dysfunction.

In Ayurveda, these causes are referred to as abhighata (trauma) and shastradantanakhakshataha (injury from weapons, teeth, and nails.)

Additional justifications:

Erectile dysfunction is also caused by obesity, prolonged bicycle riding, a history of sexual abuse, and advanced age.

According to Ayurveda, the following factors contribute to impotence or erectile dysfunction in old age. “decreased tissue elements, strength, energy, and lifespan, inability to consume nourishing food, and physical and mental fatigue all contribute to impotence.”

Treatments for Erectile Dysfunction

ED can be treated at any age. In Ayurveda, the total treatment for impotence is referred to as “Vajikarana therapy.” Because this therapy strengthens a man’s ability to perform sexual acts, similar to a horse, it is called ‘Vaajikarana’. (‘Vaaji’ means ‘Horse.)

• Happiness is the result of Vaajikarana therapy.
• Sufficient strength.
• The ability to produce healthy progeny.
• Increased erection duration.

Acceptance of vajikarana therapy.

1. The vajikarana therapy should be administered to individuals aged 18 to 70 years.
2. These therapies should be administered only to individuals who are capable of self-control. If this therapy is given to someone who lacks self-control, he becomes a nuisance to society due to his illegitimate sex acts.


Reduced anxiety associated with intercourse, combined with psychological treatment, aids in the cure of ED. The patient’s partner can assist with the techniques, which include gradual intimacy and stimulation development. Additionally, these techniques can assist in relieving anxiety associated with the treatment of ED due to physical causes.

Ayurveda demonstrates the same treatment. According to legend, “a woman who understands and is liked by a man, combined with an erotic environment, acts as the best aphrodisiac.”

Pharmacological Treatment

Numerous herbal preparations are mentioned in Ayurveda for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) or impotence. It has been stated that individuals with a strong sexual desire and a desire to enjoy sex on a regular basis must consume these preparations to replenish their energy, vigor, stamina, and strength. Additionally, these preparations provide the nutrients necessary for semen production.

Ayurvedic remedies for ED
